Davenport TIF Support Letter Questions Not Answered

Davenport TIF Support Letter Questions Not Answered

Iowa code 403.5 provides for affected taxing entities to be notified and allowed an opportunity to comment on creation and changes to economic development areas and on the adoption of tax increment financing (TIF).

The Scott County Board recently responded to Davenport’s proposed amendment to the North Economic Development Area and to allow adoption of a TIF  to provide economic development assistance to a company.

I felt that information was not included as to the payback period for 17 million investment.  What does data tell us the …

UPDATE: Firms lobbying on behalf of Scott County

UPDATE: Firms lobbying on behalf of Scott County

On June 18, 2015, a RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CHAIRMAN TO SIGN A RENEWAL FOR MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT FOR THE URBAN COUNTY COALITION AND AUTHORIZING PAYMENT FOR MEMBERSHIP was presented.  I cast the only nay vote

I do not support the use of tax dollars to pay for a public lobbyist.

From May 18, 2015:  In 2012, the County joined the Urban County Coalition (UCC).  This legislation session has brought to light that I am not always in agreement with the position taken by the UCC.  The Board does …

Audio streaming of County public meetings

I spoke many times during my campaign that one of my goals was to audio stream the County public meetings as well as have the audio data archived.  I’ve done some inquiries into Johnson County’s system and hope you will take a look at the features offered at their website http://www.johnson-county.com/dept_auditor.aspx?id=14525

Your feedback is welcome, and if you know of another product that would fit the bill, please pass it along.

QCTimes: Holst Polls as well as incumbents

Republican challenger Diane Holst did more than survive Tuesday’s Scott County Board of Supervisors primary.

The hard campaigning activist actually outpolled at least one of the two GOP county board incumbents in 25 precincts. Holst won 11 precincts outright over incumbents William Cusack and Carol Earnhardt.

Holst polled best in Pleasant Valley, LeClaire and Hickory Grove precincts. But she was competitive throughout Bettendorf, winning the Bettendorf 12 precinct. She turned enough Republican heads in the primary to advance to the general election, where we expect she’ll …

Bill Cusack received 3,598 votes, while Carol Earnhardt collected 3,347 votes, according to unofficial election results. Along with Diane Holst, who won 3,053 votes in her first-ever election, they move onto the Nov. 4 general election ballot.

Holst was excited about the results. “I feel I’ve really gotten a vote of confidence from the people I’ve talked to in Scott County,” she said.

Holst Endorsed by River Cities Reader

Holst Endorsed by River Cities Reader

“Every blue moon the stars align to produce a candidate for public office who is the real deal. Taxpayers are fortunate enough to have just such a candidate for the Scott County Board of Supervisors in Diane Holst.”

“….the current Board of Supervisors protects the needs of the bureaucracy more often than the needs of residents. This is seen with such cavalier mid-year budget increases over $700,000. There was no discussion, just perfunctory approval as usual. The Scott County budget has doubled over the past 14 …
